MacPhail Woods
This acrylic painting is in my Private Collection. Following a class at the MacPhail Homestead in Orwell, perhaps a decade ago, we students went on a late afternoon walk through the MacPhail Woods. It was late afternoon. The sun shown through the trees and onto the stream. The colour of the late afternoon reflections on the water were accentuated by the tannin in the water.
This walk, in what seemed like an almost primeval forest, was magical. Years later I spent most of a winter trying to capture the magic of that moment in an acrylic painting.
It is in my private collection of favorite paintings: perhaps because I love the painting – perhaps because of the memories it evokes of the magical woods and day.
